The museum of torture. Carcassonne

This museum located in south west France in the city of Carcassone, presents numerous instrument of torture used during the Middle Age until the French revolution. It is in fact the museum of the inquisition pursuing all and supposed enemies of the catholicism.

The Picassiette house. Chartres

It is an extraordinary example of naïve art and brut art. The house is entirely covered with broken glass, plates and other kitchen dishes. A 30 year long labor crafted by Raymond Isidore.

Annecy lake: between sky and land!

Paret Competition
It is a friendly competition to do with your family and friends on the sled ancestor "le paret." It is a traditional wooden sled born in the region of Annecy. It only has one runner equipped with an inclined board that people sit on, with a stick to direct the sledge. (sled or sledge?)
It was used traditionally by the village kids to go to school in winter while going downhill on the snowy roads.

Menthon-Saint-Bernard Castle

Still inhabited by the same family since the 11th century, built between the 11th and the 19th centuries, it still preserves many of its original furnishings and period interiors.On weekends and public holidays visits are animated by actors in period costume.

Location: Bordeaux, Aquitaine, France.
Year of submission: 2007

Description:

The Port of the Moon is an outstanding urban and architectural environment from the age of the Enlightenment, with more protected buildings than any other French city except Paris. Its urban form represents the success of philosophers who wanted to make towns into melting pots of humanism, universality, and culture.

It has been known as a place of cultural exchange for more than 2,000 years, particularly since the 12th century due to commercial links with Britain and the Low Lands.

Registered Memory: Bayeux Tapestry
Location: Municipal Library of Bayeux, Normandy, France.
Year of submission: 2007

Description:

The Bayeux Tapestry is actually embroidery. It is 68.8 meters long, 50 centimeters high, and weighs close to 350 kilograms (771.6 lbs.).

The Tapestry relates historical events and the way of life in the Middle Ages, during the 11th century in particular. Through embroiled imagery and symbols, it documents many events of importance such as the passage of Haley’s comet in the sky, which many thought to be the end of the world at the time. There is no similar document to compare with it.
