I don't want to tread on toes here but I use an on-line site called Hello Talk alongside Frenchpod101 and French lessons that I take locally here in the UK. I have found all three methods totally complimentary. Hello Talk puts you in touch with real people in various countries looking to help others learn their language. I use it extensively and I now have some really good French friends who are helping me. In return, I help them with their English.
Hello Talk, and please, I have no affiliation to them whatsoever, allows me to share text and notes, leave and listen to audio, call and receive calls (through free voip) and translate and correct the work of my "friends". They in turn help me by doing the same. It's pretty much a free service. Alongside Frenchpod101, I think I have all of the bases covered and my French improves daily.
