HideYes of course. I remember in my early teens (I was about 11 or 12) I went under the table and instructed the house hostess to distribute each part to each guest. Once the distribution was over, I ate my piece of cake and had the figurine. To this day I really don't know if she saw it in the cake and put the piece of cake with the charm on my plate! Funny how one think of these moments as a fully grown adult! I still remember that nice warm feeling when I discovered it and became queen of the day!
Oh let me translate:
Merci d’éclaircir mes idées.
J'’apprends quelque chose de nouveau tous les jours! Je ne savais pas la différence entre gâteau et galette des rois!
Peut-être que je perds la mémoire  …
En tous cas, dans l’humble demeure de mes parents nous avions toujours une galette.
Thank you to clear up my ideas.
I learn something new every day
I didn't know the difference between gâteau et galette des rois!
Maybe I lost my mind.
In any cases in my parents humble house we always had une galette.
Who ? who said what?
What did she say??:shock::neutral:
Céline,
Merci d'éclaircir mes idées.

What is specialty for the epiphany on January 6th? if you don't celebrate it, is there another celebration in your country near that day?
Oui, Celine, je parle éxactement du chocolat chaud qu'on mange avec les "churros". C'est délicieux avec le gâteau des rois!
Oui ! very popular in south ! well there is a difference between galette des rois et gâteau des roix but both are popular in the south
Hi Munia
I'd say "la galette des rois" is eaten everywhere in France! It is found in all bakeries and supermarkets.
It might be more festive dans le sud (in the South), Céline? Is my guess a correct one?
Munia and Careyxxx
Nice and fun way to talk about our memory in conjunction with the digital camera!
I guess my digital camera needs a lot of batteries change as it shuts down often and is quite poorly functioning!
E.g. I have a memo white board, post-it everywhere and set up the alarm clock to remind me of things to do! Re:shock::shock::shock:
Hi Careyxxx
Hmmm good question! I think either extreme very bad or very nice souvenirs stick in my mind.
I can't really say as I never had very bad experiences. My childhood was pretty much balanced without any "incidents".
Overall I think I have a tendency to remember better good things and put in a dark corner the bad ones to forget them!
I have never eaten "galette des Rois." Instead, In Spain, it is traditional to eat "gateau des Rois" (http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%A2teau_des_Rois). At home, we usually eat it with hot chocolate the morning of January the 6th, after opening our presents, and it's delicious.
Are "gateaux des Rois" popular in France, too, or only in the South, as Wikipedia says?
@Carey: My memory is bad and sort of selective, so it remembers random things, and never when I want to remember them. It's so frustrating. I'd say that it's like a digital camera that has come to life and now does whatever it wants.
You said: "Funny how one think of these moments as a fully grown adult! I still remember that nice warm feeling when I discovered it and became queen of the day! "
Is your memory selective? Do you only remember the good things or the bad things as well? I sometimes think that I have a photographic memory because I can remember things in detail when I was young. My memory is like a digital camera, but unfortunately, the delete button is broken. There are so many bad photos.
