| In France, just like in most other countries, during one’s birthday, in French anniversaire, one typically receives a slew of text messages from friends and family, which makes people feel happy to know others are thinking about them on their special day. |
| When they’re celebrating their birthday in France, some people enjoy simply having a nice lunch or dinner with their family, and of course, the traditional birthday cake with candles or bougies. Before blowing them out, you must always make a silent wish, in French voeu. Then come the presents, in French cadeaux! |
| However, in general most people like to have a big birthday celebration, or fête, usually planned for the weekend, so they can sleep all morning after a long night of partying! For such occasions, people typically invite all of their friends, and either have a house party, or go out to dinner somewhere fancy. |
| At children’s birthdays, people mostly invite friends over for the afternoon snack, or goûter time for a couple of hours. If the weather is nice, the kids play games like sack race, in French course en sac, and musical chairs, or chaise musicale. |
