Becky: Welcome to a special Inner Circle Audio Lesson! I'm Becky and I'll be your host. My co-host today is the founder of InnovativeLanguage.com... Peter Galante! |
Peter: Hi everyone! Peter here. |
Becky: In this Inner Circle, we’re talking about – How to Set The Ship Straight |
Peter: ...with a Routine Reminder Checklist |
Becky: You’ll learn One: How to Take Full Advantage of Learning Tools You Might Not Know About |
Peter: ...Two: How To Maintain Your New Routine with an Actionable Checklist |
Becky: ...And Three: How You Can Make Your Own Routine Reminder Checklist |
Peter: ...All so you can master your target language and finally reach your goals! |
Body |
Becky: Listeners, welcome to the Inner Circle. |
Peter: Last time, you learned about the 7 minutes and 7 seconds to language learning success.... |
Becky: ..or why that amount of time is ALL you need to develop a learning routine. |
Peter: The big lesson? Simply hit the 7 minutes and 7 seconds every day... |
Becky: ...learn language for that short amount of time. Just 7 minutes... |
Peter: ...out of 1440 minutes total in one day. Just 7 minutes. It’s that easy. |
Becky: And then you’re done for the day. |
Peter: That was a great tactic, Becky. |
Becky: So... does this mean you finally hit your goal, Peter? |
Peter: You got it. I hit 3 minutes of German conversation last week. The goal is done. |
Becky: Wow, finally. Some good news. So the 7 minute routine really helped huh? |
Peter: Well, yes it did. But it wasn’t all easy. See, there’s ONE problem i ran into. I think MOST of our learners would agree, they have this too. |
Becky: What is it? |
Peter: Well, when I started sticking to my 7 minute routine, I only did the audio lessons. |
Becky: I think that sounds like a reasonable start. |
Peter: Definitely, Becky. But... I got so caught up in that routine. I ignored most of our powerful learning tools.... |
Becky: Ah I see. |
Peter: ... And I could’ve made FASTER progress if I had taken advantage... of say... the 1-on-1 learning with my Premium PLUS teacher. |
Becky: You know, Peter, I think most listeners don’t know about the ALL of the learning tools they get... |
Peter: Exactly! BUT... there is a great solution to this. It helped me hit me reach my language goal for the month. What I did was, I started using new study tools that I hadn’t used before. And since, I’ve boosted my learning time to up to 30 minutes a day recently. |
Becky: 30 minutes a day is not too shabby! What’s this solution? |
Peter: A Routine Reminder Checklist. |
Becky: And listeners, this is the topic of today’s Inner Circle. |
Peter: How to Set Your Ship Straight with a Routine Reminder Checklist |
Becky: You’ll learn One: How to Take Full Advantage of Learning Tools You Might Not Know About |
Peter: ...Two: How To Maintain Your Routine with a Checklist |
Becky: ...And Three: How You Can Make Your Own Routine Reminder Checklist |
Peter: So, let’s get into that point first. |
Becky: One: How to Take Full Advantage of Learning Tools You Might Not Know About |
Peter: Listeners, you land on our site. And there’s so much to choose from. |
Becky: The lessons, the core word-lists, the daily dose app, the word of the day... |
Peter: All really amazing tools that will get you speaking your target language. |
Becky: ...but what do you use? Where do you start? Do you even know they exist!? |
Peter: This is the number one problem most learners have. |
Becky: They don’t know of ALL of the fantastic tools they can take advantage of. |
Peter: Listeners, what if you had a checklist, a routine reminder checklist, that gave you... |
Becky: The precise starting points and study tools you can use right now. |
Peter: For example one item would be: Listen to one lesson of the Top 25 Questions You Need To Know Series |
Becky: another is... Check the Daily Dose Lesson for Today. |
Peter: ...Send Your Premium PLUS Teacher 1 message today. |
Becky: ...or review the Vocab Slideshow for the most recent Word List. I don’t think many listeners know about this one! |
Peter: SO the point is listeners... what if you had... an actionable checklist... |
Becky: ...and a TON of ways to start learning today and everyday... |
Peter: ...and take FULL advantage of our entire learning system. |
BECKY:
Listeners, you can try them all, pick and choose the ones you like.. |
Peter: ...and, most importantly, add or subtract them from your routine. This is exactly what I did to reach my goal. |
Becky: So you adjusted your routine a bit, huh Peter? |
Peter: Exactly. I added some new ways and took away some old ways of learning to speed up my progress. |
Becky: And listeners, you might not know about some of these! |
Peter: So, let’s get into that second point. |
Becky: Two: How To Maintain Your New Routine with an Actionable Checklist. |
Peter: So, if you remember, I did 7 minutes and 7 seconds of German a day. |
Becky: Yep. How did you fill that time up? |
Peter: Well... like I said. At first I focused on the lessons. The audio lessons. I wanted to hit that time limit per day. |
Becky: I remember. You also said you started going up to 15 and 30 minutes per day. |
Peter: Right. And that’s when I realized... it’s HARD to fill up that time with just lessons alone. You can do it... but... |
Becky: It sounds hard work to be honest. Just the lessons. |
Peter: You know, what’s that expression? Variety is the spice of life. |
Becky: Yeah, that’s it. |
Peter: So I realized was also ignoring some powerful learning tools that we already have. And added.. .even this year. |
Becky: That’s like leaving money on the table. Leaving fast learning progress... |
Peter: ...on the table. Exactly. So I sat down with my team and we went over all of the language tools that we have on the site and in the apps. We came up with a checklist. |
Becky: A checklist? |
Peter: A Routine Reminder Checklist. |
Becky: Listeners, you’ll find this inside the PDF section of this Inner Circle Lesson. |
Peter: And we came up with 25 ways you can learn right now and check off for the day. |
Becky: So, what were some of the things that are on your checklist? |
Peter: One very POWERFUL thing I ignored was the Premium PLUS 1-on-1 learning. That’s the 1-on-1 learning with a real teacher. |
Becky: Yeah, that’s the best type of practice you can have. |
Peter: You absolutely cannot miss out on that. Then there’s the Daily Dose of Language App. Which is brand new and I check that every morning now. |
Becky: So, all of the items on the checklist are related to our learning system. |
Peter: Exactly. And I want to touch on a few interesting ones. Listeners, you might like this too. |
Becky: What are they? |
Peter: One is... listen to a song in your target language for the day. It’s super easy to do with YouTube. |
Becky: What about TV shows? Last year you were watching Narcos while learning Spanish. |
Peter: That’s another one too, Becky. Find a TV show in your target language that you like and start watching them. |
Becky: I see. So, you added things to your routine. Now, how do you maintain them? |
Peter: The checklist, Becky. That’s the beauty of a checklist. It’s a no brainer. Everyday, I take a look at the checklist and I know what to do. |
Spend 5 minutes on the Top 25 Questions You Must Know Series on the App |
Spend 1 minute a day on the Daily Dose App |
Send my Premium PLUS teacher a message and any assignments she asked for. This can take anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes. |
Review my Flashcards on the site. I’ll spend about 5 minutes on this. |
And Becky, actually, these are my 4 favorite go-to study methods. |
Becky: Learning on the App, the Daily Dose Lessons, Premium PLUS and Flashcards? |
Peter: That’s right. Once I do them, I check them off. If I want to mix up a routine... |
Becky: ...or add something new... |
Peter: I can take a quick look and ALWAYS find something to do. For example listen to a German song or review the lesson notes. |
Becky: Wow, so it is that easy to maintain a routine with a checklist. So, how can our learners take advantage of this? |
Peter: Let’s get into the third part. |
Becky: Three: How You Can Make Your Own Routine Reminder Checklist |
Peter: Listeners, we’ve already made this easy for you. |
Becky: On the back of the PDF lesson of this Inner Circle... |
Peter: ...find the checklist of ALL of the learning methods you can take advantage of... |
Becky: ....with our learning system... |
Peter: ...and methods outside of our system. Like listening to songs for example. |
Becky: Simply by having a routine reminder checklist, you’ll have actionable starting points... |
Peter ...You’ll learn about powerful learning tools in our system that you never knew about ... |
Becky: ...You can pick and choose the ones you like. You’ll maximize your learning time. |
Peter: And maintaining is it as easy as checking the checklist. And the beauty of this, if you like your routine that you have, leave it as is, but if you find something new, you can add it to the routine. And if you find something that wasn’t working as well, you can take it away. So I think one of the most important things about routines is... testing them once in a while. |
Becky: I think you’re right, Peter. You might find something better suited for yourself. |
Peter: We’re constantly updating the technology, updating the methods and introducing you to faster and more fun ways to learn. So, it's important that every once in a while, you try the things we’re putting out there. |
Becky: Alright, Peter. What about your goal for April? |
Peter: I’ll aim to hit 6 minutes of German conversation. The deadline is April 30th, 2016. |
Becky: And listeners, let us know... do you use checklists to help you learn? |
Peter: Or do you have a similar approach...we want to hear about it! |
Becky: Email us and tell us at inner dot circle at innovativelanguage dot com. |
Peter: And stay tuned for the next Inner Circle. |
Outro
|
Becky: Well, that’s going to do it for this special Inner Circle lesson! |
Peter: Bye everyone! |
Becky: Thanks for listening, and we’ll see you next time. |
