INTRODUCTION |
Eric: Hi everyone, I'm Eric. |
Yasmine: And I'm Yasmine. |
Eric: Talking About the Future. |
Eric: In this lesson, you'll learn how to use a sentence pattern for describing something in the future. |
PATTERN |
Eric: For example, "I will go to the cinema tomorrow." |
Yasmine: Je vais aller au cinéma demain. |
Yasmine: [slow] Je vais aller au cinéma demain. |
Eric: The pattern for describing something in the future has 4 elements. First, the pronoun, in this case "I." |
Yasmine: Je. |
Eric: Second, the verb "to go," conjugated in the first person singular. |
Yasmine: vais. |
Eric: Third, a verb in the infinitive form, in this case “to go.” |
Yasmine: aller. |
Eric: And last, the complement, in this case "to the cinema tomorrow." |
Yasmine: au cinéma demain. |
Eric: Altogether, we have "I will go to the cinema tomorrow." |
Yasmine: Je vais aller au cinéma demain. [slow] Je vais aller au cinéma demain. [normal] Je vais aller au cinéma demain. |
Eric: First you have a pronoun, then the verb "to go" conjugated according to the pronoun. This plays a similar role to the English auxiliary "will." Then we have a verb in the infinitive form, and lastly the complement. |
Yasmine: Je vais aller au cinéma demain. |
Eric: So remember, to describe something in the future, start with a pronoun, then the verb "to go" conjugated according to the pronoun, a verb in the infinitive form, and then the thing you want to describe. |
Eric: Here's another example meaning, "I will read a book on the plane." First, the pronoun, in this case "I." |
Yasmine: Je. |
Eric: Second, the verb "to go," conjugated in the first person singular. |
Yasmine: vais. |
Eric: Third, a verb in the infinitive form, in this case “to read.” |
Yasmine: lire. |
Eric: And last, the complement, in this case "a book on the plane." |
Yasmine: un livre dans l'avion. |
Eric: Altogether we have... |
Yasmine: Je vais lire un livre dans l'avion. [slow] Je vais lire un livre dans l'avion. [normal] Je vais lire un livre dans l'avion. |
Eric: "I will read a book on the plane." |
[pause] |
Yasmine: Je vais lire un livre dans l'avion. |
Eric: How do you say - "I will make crêpes for dinner." To give you a hint, "to make crepes for dinner" is... |
Yasmine: faire des crêpes pour le dîner. [slow] faire des crêpes pour le dîner. [normal] faire des crêpes pour le dîner. |
Eric: "I will make crêpes for dinner." |
[pause] |
Yasmine: Je vais faire des crêpes pour le dîner. [slow] Je vais faire des crêpes pour le dîner. [normal] Je vais faire des crêpes pour le dîner. |
[pause] |
Yasmine: Je vais faire des crêpes pour le dîner. |
