INTRODUCTION
Eric: Hi everyone, I'm Eric.
Yasmine: And I'm Yasmine.
Eric: Using Conditionals.
Eric: In this lesson, you'll learn how to use a sentence pattern for using conditionals with "if."
PATTERN
Eric: For example, "If I lose my hair, I'll buy a wig."
Yasmine: Si je perds mes cheveux, j'achète une perruque.
Yasmine: [slow] Si je perds mes cheveux, j'achète une perruque.
Eric: The pattern for using conditionals with "if" has 3 elements. First, the word "if."
Yasmine: Si.
Eric: Second, clause A, in this case "I lose my hair."
Yasmine: je perds mes cheveux.
Eric: Third, clause B, in this case "I'll buy a wig."
Yasmine: j'achète une perruque.
Eric: Altogether, we have "If I lose my hair, I'll buy a wig."
Yasmine: Si je perds mes cheveux, j'achète une perruque. [slow] Si je perds mes cheveux, j'achète une perruque. [normal] Si je perds mes cheveux, j'achète une perruque.
Eric: First you have the word "if," followed by a first clause in the present indicative form, then another clause in either the present indicative or future form.
Yasmine: Si je perds mes cheveux, j'achète une perruque.
Eric: So remember, to express conditions, start with "if," followed by a first clause in the present indicative form, and add another clause in either the present indicative or future form.
Eric: Here's another example meaning, "If I miss my bus, I'll arrive late." First, expression "if."
Yasmine: Si.
Eric: Second, clause A, in this case "I miss my bus."
Yasmine: je rate mon bus.
Eric: Third, clause B, in this case "I'll arrive late."
Yasmine: j'arriverai en retard.
Eric: Altogether we have...
Yasmine: Si je rate mon bus, j'arriverai en retard. [slow] Si je rate mon bus, j'arriverai en retard. [normal] Si je rate mon bus, j'arriverai en retard.
Eric: "If I miss my bus, I'll arrive late."

Yasmine: Si je rate mon bus, j'arriverai en retard.
Eric: How do you say - "If the weather is nice tomorrow, I'll go to the beach." To give you a hint, "to be nice weather tomorrow" is...
Yasmine: faire beau demain. [slow] faire beau demain. [normal] faire beau demain.
Eric: "If the weather is nice tomorrow, I'll go to the beach."
[pause]
Yasmine: S'il fait beau demain, je vais à la plage. [slow] S'il fait beau demain, je vais à la plage. [normal] S'il fait beau demain, je vais à la plage.
