INTRODUCTION
Eric: Hi everyone, I'm Eric.
Yasmine: And I'm Yasmine.
Eric: Asking About a Choice.
Eric: In this lesson, you'll learn how to use a sentence pattern for asking about a choice.
PATTERN
Eric: For example, "Which car does he like?"
Yasmine: Quelle voiture aime-t-il?
Yasmine: [slow] Quelle voiture aime-t-il?
Eric: The pattern for asking about a choice has 3 elements. First, the adjective "which" in the feminine form.
Yasmine: Quelle.
Eric: Second, the noun, in this case "car."
Yasmine: voiture.
Eric: Third, the verb "to like," conjugated in the third person singular and masculine.
Yasmine: aime-t-il.
Eric: Altogether, we have "Which car does he like?"
Yasmine: Quelle voiture aime-t-il? [slow] Quelle voiture aime-t-il? [normal] Quelle voiture aime-t-il?
Eric: First you have the adjective "which" modified in gender and number according to the following noun. Next is the noun, and then the verb "to like" (interchangeable with "prefer" or other similar verbs) conjugated according to the gender and number of the subject.
Yasmine: Quelle voiture aime-t-il?
Eric: So remember, to ask about a choice, start with the adjective "which," followed by a noun, and then a conjugated verb according to the gender and number of the subject.
Eric: Here's another example meaning, "Which actor does she like?" First, adjective "which" in the masculine form.
Yasmine: Quel.
Eric: Second, the noun, in this case "actor."
Yasmine: acteur.
Eric: Third, the verb "to like," conjugated in the third person singular and feminine.
Yasmine: aime-t-elle.
Eric: Altogether we have...
Yasmine: Quel acteur aime-t-elle? [slow] Quel acteur aime-t-elle? [normal] Quel acteur aime-t-elle?
Eric: "Which actor does she like?"
[pause]
Yasmine: Quel acteur aime-t-elle?
Eric: How do you say - "Which class do you like?" To give you a hint, "class" is...
Yasmine: cours. [slow] cours. [normal] cours.
Eric: "Which class do you like?"
[pause]
Yasmine: Quel cours aimes-tu? [slow] Quel cours aimes-tu? [normal] Quel cours aimes-tu?
[pause]
Yasmine: Quel cours aimes-tu?
