INTRODUCTION
The phrase we cover in this lesson relates to the phrase "How much?" In French, this is Combien? We also introduce "How much is this?" Combien ça coûte.
GRAMMAR POINT
When you come to France, one of the most interesting and fun things to do is haggle at the market! So when you're at the market and talking prices, there is another phrase that will come in very handy! That phrase is "too expensive."
In French, "too expensive" is trop cher.
Trop cher.
Let’s break it down by syllable: trop cher.
Now let's hear it once again: Trop cher.
The first word, trop, means "too much."
Let's break down this word and hear it one more time: trop
And, trop
This is followed by cher, which in English means "expensive."

Altogether, that makes trop cher, which means "too expensive."
Another phrase that we can use in combination with this is "less expensive, please," which in French is moins cher, s'il vous plaît.
